SDSA Board Meeting

January 14, 2008

 

Co-chair Lynne Armstrong called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM.

Members present:  Olga Hernandez, Lynne Armstrong, Cris Ramirez, Bryan Gerard, Travis Peterson, Richard Moon, Jeanne Belaire, Ruth Dalrymple and Antonia Padilla.

Members absent:  Roberto Flores and Joe LaMonica

Guest:  Dan Graney

Lynne read thank you letters from Leticia Van de Putte and Charlie Gonzales that expressed their appreciation for SDSA’s Friendly Incumbent Endorsement. 

Treasurer, Ruth Dalrymple, reported that the ending balance, as of December 2007, was $5,492.01.

Dan, Endorsement Committee, reported that there would be a meeting on Wednesday to review candidate questionnaires and follow up on these.  He announced that he would have copies of our endorsements available at the February membership meeting.

Olga, Communications Committee, indicated that an announcement would be made at the membership meeting regarding the new list server that SDSA is using to e-mail members.

Cris, Board Development Committee, made a motion for the Board to approve Charlie Gallimore as a member of the Board Development Committee.  Bryan seconded and the motion passed.

Ruth, Treasurer, presented the Proposed Budget for 2008 for review and adoption.  Cris moved to adopt it and Jeanne seconded the motion.  After some discussion on the expense of the bulk mailing for our endorsements in November, the budget was approved.

Travis, Sensitivity Training, announced that there would be another training session in March and a debriefing session for the December training would be held sometime in January.

Lynne indicated that the meeting with the City Manager had been productive.  She will give an update at the membership meeting.  She also indicated that she had no new information regarding Shannon Bailey.

Antonia gave a brief report on Mara Kiesling’s visit to San Antonio.

Bryan announced the MLK March and indicated that members would be given information as to location, times, etc. via e-mail.

Lynne announced that Amy Kastely would be the guest speaker at the February membership meeting.  She will be discussing the new city ordinance on marches and parades.  Other speakers scheduled include Greg Heron in March and Justin Rodriguez in April.

Lynne gave the Board copies of National Stonewall’s Grow to Win program.  She asked that members review this information for discussion at the next board meeting.

Dan gave some background information on the city ordinance and announced that information and updates are available at the Esperanza web site.  (www.esperanzacnter.org)

“For the Bible Tells Me So”, a movie, will be shown here in San Antonio, at MCC Church.  Members will be notified via e-mail.

A Valentine’s Day Dance will be held on February 9th, for more information contact Roberto Flores.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:15 PM.
