SDSA Board Minutes

April 13, 2009

The meeting was called to order by co-chairs Roberto Flores and Lynne Armstrong at 6:45 PM.

Members Present:  Lynne Armstrong, Roberto Flores, David Plylar, Peg MacPhail, Linda Allen, Mark Spencer, Larry Stallings, and Jeanne Belaire

Members Absent:  Cris Ramirez, Chris Forbrich, Bryan Gerard and Olga Hernandez

Treasurer, Larry, reported that after campaign contributions and printing costs for board binders, we have a balance of $2555.62.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Program, Fundraising and Events:  SDSA Banquet will be held on October 3, 2009.  The speaker will be Matt Foreman and the committee is still researching a location.

Membership:  Currently we have a total of 174 members; 62 renewed/new members for the first quarter.

Endorsement:  SDSA has endorsed Julian Castro for mayor.  In city council races SDSA has endorsed Chris Forbrich in district 1, Byron Miller in district 2, Lourdes Galvan in district 5, Anna Caballero in district 6, Elena Guajardo in district 7, and Melissa Martinez-Carrasco in district 8.  SDSA gave each city council candidate $500; the mayoral candidate received $1000.

Peace Officer’s Training Committee:  Mick Henson has withdrawn as chair of the teaching faculty.  Roberto Flores will assume that position.

Communications/Web Master:  The daily digest is available for Yahoo group SDSA Board Members to keep abreast of club business.

The Board Retreat will be discussed via the polling feature on Yahoo groups.

A motion was made by Peg and seconded by Linda that SDSA join the LGBT Chamber of Commerce, membership dues are $100.  The motion carried.

Mark moved that the SDSA’s fiscal year run concurrently with the calendar year.  David seconded and the motion passed.

A motion was made by Mark and seconded by Peg that SDSA purchase a card size ad in Q San Antonio for $125.  The motion passed.

The Birthday Bash will be held at Lynne and Olga’s home on May 30th.

The Pool Party fundraiser will be held at Jeanne and Sandi’s home in July.  Details and more information will be available soon.
