SDSA Membership Minutes

February 18, 2008

 

Co-chairs Lynne Armstrong and Roberto Flores called the meeting to order at 6:30 PM, at Grady’s Restaurant.

General Claudia Kennedy spoke briefly on behalf of Hillary Clinton.

No treasurer’s report was available.

Dan Graney, Endorsement Committee, presented information on the candidates SDSA endorsed.  He indicated the list was on the web site but he also had extra copies available to anyone needing them.  He announced that there would be Precinct Convention training for precinct chairs on Saturday, February 23 at 1:00 PM, on the campus of St. Mary’s University.

Lynne Armstrong introduced Amy Kastely, law professor at St. Mary’s University, legal advisor to the Esperanza Peace and Justice Center and community activist.  She spoke on the new San Antonio Marching Ordinance.  She gave the membership an overview and a brief history of how this ordinance came about.

Barack Obama representatives addressed the membership on his behalf.

Olga Hernandez, National Stonewall Board Member, discussed the Grow to Win Program.  Through this program SDSA can apply for a grant to help a local candidate in his/her bid to be elected.

Lynne announced that the speakers for next month would be Greg Herren, a gay author and Steve Driscoll, Co-chair of the National Stonewall Board.  Olga and Lynne will be hosting a reception/fundraiser at their home, on Sunday, March 16, to meet Greg and Steve.  Olga encouraged the membership to become sustaining members of National Stonewall.

Roberto and Lynne welcomed and introduced the new SDSA Board Members.

Elena Guajardo announced a fundraiser, a brunch for Hillary Clinton, to be held at the Hyatt on Saturday, March 1 at 9:00 AM.

The membership was reminded to take advantage of early voting.

Bryan Gerard moved to adjourn, Olga seconded and the meeting adjourned at 7:50 PM.
